The WM Restaurants Mission

With the debut of three new restaurants in the exploding food scene of Sacramento, WM Restaurants was looking for unique branding packages for each establishment that would represent the high-quality standard of food and service they provide.

Allora: Modern Italian Seafood + Bar - "Allora is a wine-centric gathering place celebrating Italy and Sacramento's bounty." This restaurant needed to be sexy. I went with a gold on black color scheme and played with typefaces that felt sleek art deco. I infused graphic elements in the text lock-up that referenced the ocean, since the cuisine was seafood. The overall branding results was modern, sexy and chic, which is a perfect pairing for the dining experience at Allora. I infused this same tone in their menus, wine lists, wall decor, and table cards.

Woodlake Tavern: American Gastropub offering Craft Cocktails + Comfort Food. The tavern needed to feel a bit rustic, but also familiar. Keeping with the theme of the building's architecture, I went with a vintage logo look with art deco design elements that mimics the facade. Strong designed san serif type with simple dinnerware iconography really helped establish Woodlake Tavern as the premiere neighborhood eatery. The highlight of the eatery was its enormous atrium for private events. I pulled design elements from the many walnut trees that filled the atrium to create a logo that kept with the art deco feel of the bigger brand, but felt like more of a premium space.

Uptown Pizza Kitchen: Neighborhood pizza attached to the back of Woodlake Tavern. UPK was almost like a baby brother to Woodlake Tavern. The branding for the pizza place needed to be simple, but modern. I kept the vintage look from the tavern, but made it a bit more traditional with a bolder typeface and streamlined icons. I wanted it to resemble a vintage winery, but as a pizza shop. The branding ended up being a big hit, presenting well not only on the signage and menus, but on hats and shirts that customers happily bought to celebrate the best pizza in Sacramento.

Eatable: The Locavore’s Meal Service. Restaurant quality, chef-designed, zero-prep meals, delivered fresh twice a week. Eatable was a pop-up business idea to be able to get meals out to customers during the pandemic. Color was important here because this brand was going to be geared towards families. The logo needed to look professional but also fun enough that kids would be excited to eat the food. I kept the design within a circle so that it would be easy to brand packaging with stickers. I got playful with the font and infused letters with design elements like forks and plants. With the help of this strong branding, WM Restaurants was able to weather the pandemic storm and continue to run their businesses.
